Tinguinha Seminar

Classes Attended: 3 Regular, 1 Seminar - Mauricio "Tinguinha" Mariano

Still no takers on my accountability partner thing, but I'm guessing that's cause no one wants to owe me beer. And I understand that.
So as to the seminar...
At first, I was a bit disappointed. I felt like a lot of the technique being shown was above my pay grade (yet again). But worse than that was I hadn't pre-planned on who I'd partner up with and ended up pairing with a purple belt who was a good bit smaller than me, so there was a lot of adjustment we had to make to the technique being shown.
In all reality, the size difference didn't bother me too much (easy enough thing for the bigger guy to say). It was the experience difference that frustrated me. I felt like I was wasting the other guy's time. Sure, we were drilling the same moves and in theory belt level shouldn't matter for that. But in reality, my lack of experience kept me from being able to help him identify where he might be going wrong in trying to execute the technique. Not to mention there were a couple times I was just being a bad drilling partner not knowing how I was supposed to react to what he was doing.
Fortunately for me though, his pain was my gain. Outside of the techniques we were learning, my partner was able to show me a couple things I've been doing wrong for years and while they won't suddenly turn me into a beast on the mats, I'm pretty sure they're going to help out immensely for the rest of my jiu jitsu career. Wish I'd taken the time to get his name cause for now I'm just thanking random purple belt I paired up with at the seminar. Also wish I found out what beer he likes cause I feel like I owe him one.
Anyways, lesson learned that at the next seminar I attend, I need to coordinate whom I pair up with (assuming it's a seminar at the gym I normally go to).
